Last year, we saw three intriguing projects that explored differing beauty standards around the world.
‘Before & After’ and ‘Before & After Part Two’ were initiatives carried out by two journalists who invited designers from around the world to “make them beautiful”, based on the beauty standards in their home country. Following these was another project involving a plus-sized woman.

Most recently, UK medical website Superdrug Online Doctor conducted a similar experiment. It invited female graphic designers from 18 countries to make the same lady appear “more attractive to other citizens of their country.”
Superdrug Online Doctor explained on its website: “The goal of this project is to better understand potentially unrealistic standards of beauty and to see how such pressures vary around the world.”
