Travel Spotlight in Africa: New Openings for 2016

Bisate 'Gorilla' Lodge, Rwanda - Opening June 2016
Nestled in the natural amphitheater of an extinct volcanic cone and with spectacular views of the brooding Bisoke, Karisimbi and Mikeno volcanoes, this 12 room sanctuary is set to become the most luxurious lodge in the area. As well as offering the perfect base from which to track mountain gorillas in the adjacent Parc National des Volcans, Bisate Lodge will be a visionary conservation and community project with its first phase focussing on indigenous reforestation of a core 26 hectare site.

Gishwate 'Chimpanzee' Lodge, Rwanda - Opening June 2016
Accommodating just 12 guests in six rustic forest cottages, guests here will have exclusive access to the habituated chimpanzee and golden monkey communities of Gishwati Forest. All revenues generated from these forest activities will go towards the conservation of the brand new Gishwati-Mukura National Park and the establishment of connecting forest corridor between the two little know forests of Gishwati and Mukura.

New Private Mogundula Island, Mozambique - Opening October 2016
Mogundula is a 21 hectare private island lying just four kilometers off the mainland of northern Mozambique. Three beautiful villas are set to open here in October 2016 offering a chic castaway escape from the every-day world. This small haven boasts two secluded beaches, a lake and beautiful coral reefs. It is also home to some of the most unspoiled and unexplored ecosystems in the Indian Ocean.  Bookable on an exclusive basis only, and accommodating up to 12, it is a wonderful location for families or groups of friends travelling together.

Miavana, Madagascar - Opening October 2016
Nosy Ankao, part of an island archipelago to the north east of the Malagasy mainland opens as Miavana private island in October next year.  The 14 ultra-luxurious, beach front villas, designed by award winning architects Silvio Rech and Lesley Carstens, will offer stunning accommodation in one, two and three bedroom configurations.  Not simply an exquisite beach lodge on an untouched island, activities will focus on 'blue safaris' including whale and turtle watching, snorkelling, scuba diving, kite surfing, and world class fishing.  Lemur and rainforest trekking will also be available on the mainland.

The Highlands, Ngnorongoro, Tanzania - Opening March 2016
Set high on the slopes of Olmoto volcano with views all the way to the Serengeti, this stunning camp will redefine the Ngorongoro crater experience.  Positioned deep in the highland wilderness, far from other camps, this warm and stylish high altitude camp comprises seven dome shaped suites including a honeymoon tent with private hot tub, and a family tent.  Among the activities on offer are nature walks, game drives in the Ngorongoro Crater, Masai cultural experience and hiking in the Empakaai Crater.
