The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) yesterday arraigned two suspected drug traffickers, Inya Samuel Ali and Okorie Onyekachi Kingsley, before an Abakaliki Federal High Court for illegal possession of hard drugs.
The suspects who pleaded guilty at the court were arraigned on a one-count charge by the drug agency.
Ali, an indigene of Ezi-Uzu village, Ugwuegu community in Afikpo North local government area of Ebonyi State, was accused of illegal possession of 400 grammes of cocaine, heroin, cannabis and other drugs and was arrested in June this year by the officials of the NDLEA.
On the other hand, Kingsley, who was arrested by the agency in September this year, resides at No. 47b, Umunze Street, Abakaliki and was accused of illegal possession of 110kg of cannabis sativa, cocaine and heroin.
The two suspects were arraigned separately before the court. According to the charge sheet, they were accused of committing offences punishable under section 19 of the National Drug Law.
When the charges were read before the suspects by a court clerk, they pleaded guilty to the charges.
The trial judge, Justice Maureen Ada Onyetenu, ordered that they be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the matter to 3rd of December for tendering of facts.
